House Water Filter

Can PVC pipe be used on any part of a home water filter system?

The filter piping is part of the potable water distribution system. If your state follows the IRC, it’s not an approved material according to table 605.4.

If we are talking about the service main, which we are not, yes, it would be approved.

Not if it is installed after the main shut off.

Can vs should

As much torque that it can sometimes take to remove the filter housing, I’m not sure I would want it attached to PVC.

I agree. I pulled the concrete screws holding the filter bracket to the foundation wall right out trying to get mine off. Those filter housings seem to have a mind of their own.

You used the 4’ cheater bar too?

Actually, yes, lol. I have a pipe now that I put over the end of the filter wrench. After re-fastening the bracket to the wall, I’ve become pretty good at using the pipe and various body positions to loosen it without putting too much stress on the bracket.

Try using vaseline on the threads and O ring.

LOL
It was the tipping point for me. A couple weeks later I tore out the filter and water softener.

I do always put it on the o-ring.

On a side note, I gotta take a pic next time I change mine out. Holy crap is their a lot of “debris” in the well water.
