how do you get rid of woody?

Brian,
Is that a turkey vulture?

Has any one discovered a easier method of measuring a structure besides a tape or measuring wheel?

First check for what the woodpecker is after ,They may have a bug problem

Check for WDI.

It’s a rental Condor, #41 to be exact, call for pricing.

How about just asking the woodpecker to leave???

O Linas if the pecker would.

Woodpeckers drum for 3 reasons:

  1. To create nesting cavities: If this is the case, sometimes putting up a nesting box will solve the problem. The box should be installed so that the hole in the box aligns with the hole in the house.

  2. Mark their territory and attract a mate: Woodpeckers warn off other woodpeckers and try to attract mates by drumming. When they drum on metal flues… they really, *really *want a mate.

  3. Looking for food. Woodpeckers eat insects they find in bark. They typically peck rather than drum when they’re in feeding mode.

Attempts at deterrence I’ve seen:

Some of these methods might work for a while but I’ve never seen any of them work for long.

  • CD’s hung from strings
  • Plastic owls
  • Audio recordings of birds in distress (on a tape loop, speakers in the bushes. All was quiet when I entered the bushes to look at the foundation. I didn’t see the speakers and was right next to one when the screaming started. 'Bout gave me a heart attack!

Go to the toy store and buy the largest toy snake you can find, and put it in the gutter right above the wood pecker site. Just always remember that the snake is there when you put up your christmas lights.

All else fails, fight the WoodPecker with another WoodPecker. ;):)
