How many layers of roofing does this appear to be?

How many layers of architectural roofing does this appear to be in your opinion?

Possibly 2 layers of shingles. Easier to count the layers from a rake edge.

Thanks for the reply and for the tip.

I was thinking it was the starter layer but then it really looks a little “layered” for just a starting layer and 1 single layer

The starter course has a devot or sag about 3" inches behind the edge of the composition shingles. Looks like to long starter course exposure.
I can not tell if there is another layer of shingle under the top layer.
Any other images of shingle fields? Say looking down.

Looks to me like you probably have a layer of 3 tab shingles, and then a layer of architectural on top

I was thinking the same thing, 2 three tab shingles thick, but the starter shingle appears to be 1 x 2 ply thick composition shingle. As well, they look to be in the same color of granular and appear to be in the same overall condition.
Later I thought, they could have cut a start strap or a starter belt, not a full starter strip, with the composition shingles. I worked with a cheap s.o.b.that did that to save shingles. You can produce many belts out of 1 shingle. Leaves the same raised starter edge and the field drops after 3 inches if the belt is 3" inches in length.
Damn this guy was cheap. If he attended the last supper he would have asked for separate bills.

awesome thanks for your input and for the comedy, i;m stealing that last line for my own. Cheers
