The clean out is closer than 5ft which was discussed in the training. When the clean out is too close to the structure, the equipment to inspect or clear drains can be difficult to get into the main. Although it may not be against the code, it does make it difficult to use tooling.
When inspecting a septic system we want to make safety our first priority. We need to make sure that the home owner and the client are aware that there are potential dangers while inspecting the tanks. We would always want them to maintain a safe distance from the openings and not to touch any of the system without the proper ppe.
When we own a home that has a septic system it is the owners full responsibility to maintain the septic system. Industry standards state that we would want to have the septic system inspected once every year. We would also want to have the system inspected when we put the house on the market.
As an Inspector I offer septic tracer dye inspections. I chose to write about this in hopes to help with a little knowledge I gained from experience. When performing these inspections I carry 4 different color dyes in my arsenal. I have found that depending on the time of year, plants and ground cover, choosing the best color dye is critical for observation. Thanks
Asbestos wrap on heating duct work seems to make buyers nervous. I recently have started bringing printed material with me to give buyers in order to ease some of their fears. A little knowledge goes a long way and helps them understand better when provided with helpful information about asbestos. When it can become a health risk, when it is better to leave it undisturbed or when a professional maybe needed, etc…

Inspection & Writing Assignment:
This is a photo of the top of the septic tank at our house. We have lived in this house for 25 years. This is a single 1000 gallon concrete tank that is effectively a single chamber. It may have had old baffles in it yet those are thought to have broken off and fallen to the bottom of the tank in the past. We have had new PVC inlet and outlet baffles installed. Back in 1994 we had a septic drain field failure so we had a new drain field designed and installed that cost over $10,000. Our septic system has operated nicely since then.
I am a little confused on the research and writing assignment…do we do it based on the topic at hand or any topic? I would assume it would be the topic at hand but the instructions say to choose any library article.
I am taking the How to Inspect Septic Systems. I am a Home Inspector in the state of NY. Do I need any other licensing or certifications in the state of New York ?
