For some reason it appears to be normal around here for someone to disconnect or just install it that way for dryers to be vented in the attic space of older homes.
With the already high temperature we get in SW Florida by adding excessive amounts of moisture to the attic space is inviting more potential for mold growth and decay of the attic space wood framing members.
