I have a 6-month old electrical box that houses AFI’s and GFCI breakers along with the normal breakers. I am reluctant to open the box because there is a humming noise coming from this box. Is this normal? Please help!

Is there a doorbell transformer near it, or potentially (less desirable), inside it?

Humming doesn’t sound right. The humming panels I have ever seen was either a transformer, breaker, or incorrect wiring.

It would be hard to determine the cause over these boards.

You would be better off getting a sparky to look at it as soon as possible

Why do transformers hum?

Because they don't know the words.

It was a trade school joke.......sorry.

Seriously absent a transformer a typical panel should be silent.

I will say I have not dealt with AFCIs so maybe they do make noise but I find that unlikely.

I agree it would be wise to have someone look at the panel.

I have one of those humming panels, that does not know how to sing. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway....I always assumed that it was from being loaded close to the capacity of the panel.

My panel was humming and it would make a noise only the dog could hear when some big loads came on. Long story short it was a loose screw in the dead front cover. The cover was buzzing from the magnetics in the panel.
