I am not even sure what certification to pursue in the beginning. Whichever one is the broadest or beginning stage. I would plan to add specialty stuff later.

Thanks for the leads on the online courses. Most convenient.

Steven,

Residential Building Inspector, is the basic certification for residential properties. This is also the easiest to pass unless you're a specialist in a particular trade (i.e. electrical, plumbing or mechanical). The basis for the RBI (as well as the others) is the 2003 IRC.

I would suggest that you start with the IRC One and Two Family Dwelling.

Order the book, tabs and study guide.

If you need any help email me

I took the IRC 2003 Residential Building Inspector certification exam today and thought it was tough. It took me almost the entire 2 hours alloted time. Perhaps because I inspect in my jurisdiction to the 2000 IRC but nonetheless thought it was a good challenge. I’ve been a municipal building inspector for a couple of years and thought that it was difficult. If you plan on taking the exam, be extremely familiar with the book.

I figured it would be fairly easy since I constantly look at codes!!

Good luck!!

Was sweating it out, but passed!!!! ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)
