Inlet Inspection Port on Septic Tank

I was having a hard time getting the cap off of the inspection port for the inlet of a treatment tank. The tank was close to the surface and the PVC was easy to move so I finished digging it up and removed the cover that holds the PVC inspection port in place. As I lifted up the PVC and cover, fluid came out and it was right to the top. “Holy Crap” I thought, this tank is backed up! I removed the tank lid and the liquid level was normal. “What the hell was going on here”? I probed down into the liquid and I hit concrete. Looks like the installer was so lazy they installed an inspection port without the concrete being tapped out so you could see down the pipe. What the hell is the point of an inspection port? Once again, amazing what we find.
