Hi all! Today during an inspection in southern/central New Jersey, I came across this insect evidence that was new to me…can you all help me out with this one?
It was in a backyard shed and there was not any damage to the wood.

It was in a backyard shed and there was not any damage to the wood.
I could not identify it.
Did you “touch” this black substance?
I did push it around a bit with my screw driver and it seemed like a frass of sorts? There were also little ant bait stations all over the shed, but I’ve never seen this before.
Perhaps masses of black pavement ants frozen to a pulp
That’s sort of what I was thinking, but even the evidence right in front of me didn’t appear to be balled up or frozen ants…
