Insect pile at end of water pipe

Found this pile of insect casings/debris at the end of a pipe under the stairs. This is in northern ontario. Does anyone know what type of bug this could be? and also not sure what the purpose of this pipe is either. it was under the stairs. there is no access under the house to track the pipe. Thanks for the help!

Do I not see a spider’s web?

yes, it could be a spider’s nest. I’m concerned with the debris inside the pipe. not sure of its purpose either. it goes under the house at this point which is inaccessible. and there’s no valve. could something have been hooked up here under the stairs before and now its no longer in use? that’s my only guess. Any additional insight is appreciated

It ain’t that deep.

Bring it up in your report and recommend buyer further due diligence with the seller or a qualified contractor to further evaluate. The bug stuff is a nominal issue.

Could it be gas line sediment?

hmmm, maybe. I’m pretty sure its a water pipe though. when i first took the picture i thought it was just random debris with a cobweb on it. but when i zoom in it looks like insect casings are mixed in and scattered nearby. just wondering if theres a type of bug that does this. or it could just be an old spider nest? The casings almost look like bedbugs but i cant get the image quality good enough when i zoom in to be sure, plus this isn’t a normal place for bedbugs to be.

I keep many of these “pet” spiders around to get all the no-see-ums.

Ants.
