Inspecting a Large Property

I am scheduled to inspect a large home (6,00 sq ft, 5 bedrooms,5 baths) with a guest house(2 bedrooms, 2 baths) with a total of 6 HVAC units in the next few days.

My question to all of you is: How do I configure my report so as not to be confusing?

It would seem that I might need a sketch of the floor plans with a numbering system referenced to the report.

Do you know of any software to do this? Or, am I back to a number 2 pencil and graph paper?

I make up a legend page to id the location of each unit and assign a number, letter to it. Example - HVAC # 1, NW corner, etc. or a sketch would probably work fine. I personally do not know of any specific software… It doesn’t happen that often … does it?

I use a tablet PC, digital camera, and Homegauge software while doing my inspections. Homegauge allows you to add rooms, items, ect. to your basic report template on the fly while you are doing the inspection.

I would personally do two reports, one for the main house and one for the guest house. I number the bedrooms from the left as I walk into the house, ie Bedroom 1, Bedroom 2, etc. The ac unit has a spot on my report software for location, so that is covered. Good luck with the inspection. Take lots of water.
