The article, “Increasing Home Energy Efficiency” was very interesting. Many adjustments can be made by homeowners that can reduce the amount of energy homes require. It is important to note that as much as half of the energy used in homes goes toward heating and cooling.
This is an image of recessed lighting in an attic. Within this course air loss was discussed as well as energy savings. Making sure that these are sealed in the attic, and at the ceiling could increase your savings on electric bills.
This course talked about SEER ratings for cooling and how they have changed over time, i feel that many homeowners should be aware of what these are and what is installed in there house in case they wanted to upgrade there unit to something more efficient
This is a photo of both the indoor suspended unit and the outside unit. The home owner had an addition to the existing home and chose to use a ductless mini split heat pump. It was a good choice because there is no need to run ductwork.
For my article I read the article titled creating a home inspection brochure. It was a good read because I am planning on using brochures in my marketing. Have a professional and persuasive brochure is very important because you dont meet your clients until after they have hired you.
While inspecting an attic, I found the insulation was removed from the ceiling cavities (above the master bathroom) and not put back in place. Its very likely done by the worker(s), who were hired to replace the copper water line for the evaporative cooler on the roof. This energy inefficiency (heat loss) can easily be corrected with no cost to the owner by simply putting the insulation back in place.
I choose to read the article on 10 Easy Ways to Save Money & Energy in Your Home and found that with a little effort, a couple dollars a home owner can easily reduce their energy consumption for the year. You dont have to spend any money to save here; use appliances/electronics responsibly, cook smartly and change the way you do laundry; while doing these things require spending a little money; better ways to heat/cool your house and replacing incandescent lights. Keep in mind the goal is to reduce cost and or save energy.
The image that I uploaded is showing a wall cavity that has a lot of moisture coming in from the outside. The wall was full of moisture and mostly the sections that are covered with drywall probably have the same problem too. Mostly worst since the moisture isn’t able to dry at the same rate as the uncovered portions of the wall.
My essay is on HVAC system and the importance of making sure there are no leaks in the ducts system. Based on what I read there are to main factors that I took away from the article. The first for making sure that there are no leaks. The fact that you’re going to pay a higher cost to heat or cool your home both because of air lost and air that is cooled or warmer that mixes with the air in the system. Second is the possibility that you could possibly backdraft air that needs to be exhausted outside back in to the home. Which will interfere with indoor air quality.
Home Performance: Items found such as open gable vents and or open vent areas not related to the existing ridge vent and and will change the air natural or intended pathways. Closing or reattaching flex vent to roof top vent relieves
moisture in the attic area more than one would think.
Closing a room off may create a problem with the HVAC’s ability to properly circulate creating a positive air pressure in the closed room plus not allowing moisture to enter or return. Suggested return vents and doors be open a majority of the time.

A mini split system can be an ideal addition to a small or medium sized room. It is less costly than adding ducts and increasing the size of an existing ac unit. It can be idea in older homes where there are no wall cavities to run the duct work.
The fan door equipment has come into play again in helping diagnose the inappropriate supply of air tho the gas fired furnace and hot water heater. This result alone could be a life saving observation in relation to back drafting and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Here is an example of an attic which needs additional insulation. As it currently exists is not of a high enough R value to properly impede the heated air inside the house from entering the attic. This will result in higher heating bills and more wear and tear on the unit.
Home energy assessments are a valuable tool for homeowners deciding how to save money on their utility bills. They will have all the information they need to make an educated and informed decision for their house as well as their budget.
The central heating and air center is gas fired for heat. It is a 3 ton unit that is an energy star rated appliance. This is enough to keep the bill cost low for the cooling and heating system. They system provides enough air and heat circulation that the homeowner would not need to worry about upgrading to a newer system.
