Just curious if anyone has any experience with AHIT’s report system(paper). Has anyone used these? What would you recommend for the new inspector, checklist and suppplement with pictures(this seems rather sloppy to me) or just suck it up and purchase some software from the start.

Thanks Larry. You attended AHIT’s program right? I am scheduled to attend in a week. Did you start out with computer generated reports?

I received a diploma with the AHIT home study program in 2001.

You will like there program.

I used the paper report for about 2 years. The cost per report is kinda steep.

I purchasd there computerized system and have been using since January.

I have found both pros & cons with both systems.

Pros for the computerized system.

1) Cost per report is low.
2) Being able to email the report.
3) You can edit to your style.
4) Print on-site
5) Digital photos

Cons for the computerized.

1) You cant use a palm with the checklist format.
2) I am on my 3rd HP 450 printer(You get about 50 reports than you have problems with the paper feed.
3) Cost about 3K to start up
4) There are problems with the office pro being compatable with my PC
5) Add about 1-2 hours per inspection.

Pros for paper

1) Your done with inspection and dont need to spend additional time with a computerized report.

Cons

1) Cost per report.
2) If you write like me no one can read(Not even me)
3) I doesnt fax very legable & you cant email.

I hope this helps

I would like to be able to use a palm as I go & then copy to my tablet.
I spend to much time per inspection.

The report is word based and when I purchased you couldnt use a palm..

Good luck

Scott,

Well I can only say that I use Computer Reports and they really do not slow me down as much. I have a empty report that I had laminated that I carry around with me and a voice recorder....so I am making the sheets with a grease pen stick and then dictating into the voice recorder...

Then I put it all in the lap top that sits on the clients counter...now I use a computer system that is very detailed and is only about 700 dollars....provided you already have a laptop which their is a great deal at circuit city for $ 199.00 for a lap top with more than enough space on it but you have to sign up for AOL for a year.....but hey...what ya gonna do.

Anyway....feel free to e-mail me and I will tell you how to save a few bucks on the computer system...lol.......probably not good for me to post what I did here.....but I will gladly share with you in e-mail.

Anyway I have done both....and as others have said I have the hardest time getting the NCR's to print through on all copies worth anything and tends to bring up more issues than it solved...so I went to computer...... printers are cheap......paper is cheap.....buy INK refill kits and they are cheap........all in all I figure I save quite a bit on doing it this way versus written forms.

Plus I burn the report to CD while I am at the job and in some cases let them print their own report on their own paper...lol....when I am in the TIGHT mood...lol

I took the AHIT course and decided to bite the bullet. I have been using the computer program for a year now and have got the time down to about 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour for the report. I bought the program outright so don’t have to pay per report. There are alot of programs outthere so don’t jump on the band wagon on my say so. All of the companies will give you demo software to evaluate. If you have the time go that route and check them all out. I will say I bought on the advice of my instructor as he used it for years and did not have any issues with it. I will also say I have no regrets as they provide excellent support aand back up.
