just as you thought gas prices were recovering...

13% of our imported oil is offloaded at the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP). It appears to be about to get hit by Gustave and may suffer “Extensive damage and an extended recovery time probably measured in months”.
The LOOP includes the Clovelly Dome salt caverns capable of storing 40 million barrels of crude oil.

The Oil Drum has a good article on it.

Bad scenario if he hits.

Alot more finger pointing is gonna go around.

With the projected path of Gustav…

There are going to be a lot of oil rigs that will be affected.

No finger pointing, just higher fuel prices again.

This winter will play havoc on those poor individuals who can’t afford to pay their heating bills. Outrageous…

I’m sure the GOP will be pointing to the fact the DNC refuses to open up drilling in the less hurricane prone regions along the West and East coasts.

The article says that underwater pipelines will probably suffer damage due to the scouring action of the storm on the ocean floor.
A number of major refineries in the area will also be affected.
