How old was the residence, Steve. 2 wire configuration?
The rust on metal fasteners and the slime coating on the ceiling is evidence the ventilation was inadequate.

K&T circuits or were there circuit and equipment upgrades?
No attic access but no visible K&T; 40 year old panel. basically a teardown on a nice lot.

That’s one of those new high efficiency panels. They hold the electricity in a lot better than the older lower efficiency panels.
