What year did the use of knob and tube wiring end? I inspected a home the other day, built in 1960, that had it.

I would expect some one made an error on the year.
I started the trade in 1951 and I do not think any one was still installing Knob and Tube in Canada after about 1949 +or-.

You never know – my house was built in 1966 and has it throughout. They even ran EGCs. Seems awfully labor intensive, but that’s what they did.

Knob and Tube is still recognized as a wiring method with certain restrictions by the 2005 National Electrical Code

Joe, when did they stop allowing “new” concealed K&T installations?


My 75 book says “only for extension of existing installations”.(324-3 Uses permitted)
