It is also common to use a pan on a first floor install, would you want to damage your hardwood flooring with a washer mishap?
I haven’t seen “common” use, but I know where your coming from. Common sense, but not commonly, if ever, used in my area.
I’ve installed maybe 6 in hundreds of homes. It’s not very common even when the washer is on the second floor. It’s more common in condos.
Makes sense, and maybe a buyer’s request or standard practice buy the builder. I think the consensus is that it’s a roughed in pan drain. That would be what I would mention in a report as a “probability”…
IMHO:
The washer drain pan needs a trap also, and a trap primer.
Or, to dump directly to the dirt, and then it needs an insect/pest screen.
It this a raised or slab foundation?
It is a slab foundation and tile floor throughout the home.
Since it is a slab foundation with no visible trap I wonder if the drain line discharges directly to the exterior
That pipe looks like it is at most 1 inch in diameter, maybe even 3/4. Comparing to the shut-offs valves above for scale.
Ooops… missed Scott’s post above. I would say he nailed it.
