lines run in return duct

I have always seen this as wrong, but I keep runnnig across it. Any thoughts?

It’s not only wrong, it’s also not right.

Not with standing what the ICC may say, in may areas piping and electrical can pas through the return air duct as long as NO JOINTS are made inside the duct. Here in Ohio I have seen this passed and failed depending on the code inspector and city. I feel this is poor practice and would at least point this out in the home inspection as a CYA item

Here in Texas, we are required to report hazardous materials in a return air chase to include electrical wiring, freon lines, etc although I see many homes with freon lines in return chase.
