Looking for Mentor in the Olympic Peninsula

I am looking for a mentor in the Port Angeles/ Sequim/ Port Townsend area. My wife and I are planning on relocating this Spring and will be spending the month of February in Sequim getting to know the area.
I will be applying for a license in Washington and need to get 40 hours/5 inspections under my belt with a mentor.
Thanks in advance for any advice/assistance.

David, contact some CMIs or CPIs within 40 to 50 miles, or closer, to your area and communicate with them. Maybe one, or more, will help you. Some inspectors feel as though they are training their competition by ride-alongs or mentoring or hiring.

Here is the link for CMIs: https://certifiedmasterinspector.org/members

And the link for CPIs: https://www.nachi.org/certified-inspectors

And Mentors: https://www.nachi.org/mentoring

Also, you may want to take advantage of your Education Team at education@internachi.org for specific questions e.g. https://www.nachi.org/become-home-inspector.htm

Hi Larry,

I will reach out to some local inspectors on the link you sent. I can understand their hesitation in helping out a rookie too.

Thanks for the information,

David, Good luck breaking into the area’s market. I used to golf in Port Townsend every May in the 90’s-00’s (when I lived in Vancouver WA) and know the area enough to know it will be tough. Port Townsend, Sequim, etc. are small towns (under 10K each) and they already have multiple inspectors in the area. Not saying it will be impossible, just very difficult. You would do better traveling to Bremerton/Port Orchard or even Seattle to get some mentoring in, let alone gaining any market share to earn a decent living. Good luck!

Hi Jeffery,
Thanks for the information. I know it will be a challenge to get my time in with a local working inspector and may have to look farther away to get my hours in. I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes. Regardless, we are still relocating into the area.

Just didn’t want you to be in for a shock if you weren’t already aware.
Way too often the “less than knowledgeable” or those with an agenda on this MB like to ‘blow smoke up others asses’ like they’re doing them a favor or something.
There are many good, experienced WA/PNW inspectors in the InterNachi membership, you just may have to weed through a few to find them! Many have retired or left, but return from time to time to help out.
Seeing as you made a well worded title for this thread, they will find you when around.
Good luck in your future. The OP is an awesome area to move to!!
