I just searched for that surge protector and cannot find anything like it. Since, surge protectors are sacrificial, they have indicator lights and that thing does not have a led.

No matter what it is, it can’t be double tapped into the sub feed.

Thanks a lot

I disagree… some do, some don’t.
Most that I see Do Not.
Most (in my area) are in finished basements/garages, and the panels are inset with sheetrock surrounding. LED’s on a properly installed protector are useless as they are unseen!

Interesting. I never see any without the indicator light. The obvious reason an indicator light is needed is how will you know it did its job. Maybe there are some commercial ones that are more than single use, but I’ve never seen one that isn’t single use.

Well… it is definitely NOT anywhere any average homeowner will think to look to see if something happened.
Also, and more likely… if your computer or plasma TV still operates… IT WORKED… and if it DIDN’T WORK, you will know that also!!

Yes the commercial units have extremely high protection ratings so they don’t automatically destruct with a surge event. The Eaton units we use have event counters to tell us how many surge events have happened.

When I see this (which is often), I call it out in my main report to the client, but I do not usually put in on the 4point, unless there are other issues already as well.

The 4 point is asking about double tapped breakers. But you can list it whichever way you prefer.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Looks like a surge Protector to me:

I agree with the other guys that “double lugging” that breaker is not OK.

It’s a surge protector, however incorrectly double tapped. I see them often but rarely with an indicator light.

Yup, how the times have changed. Out with the old, in with the new, thus the constant changes in Codes to hopefully make our homes and lives safer!
