Need to know if this pad extends far enough in front of the fireplace? Would the 18" rule apply here?

Yes, but I thought it was 20"? Of course, I do not see very many fireplaces, other than gas ones, and not many of those.

when ever I see a wood stove or free standing fireplace that does not have a UL tag stating clearences I state no tag on unit. Unit may not meet manufactors guide lines for clearences. Always state only what you can prove to be so other wise make it plane that there may be a potential hazard.
