Masonry Chimney

Anyone know what height a masonry chimney can be before it needs to be supported?

If it’s more than 12 feet above its last support, then additional bracing is needed.

What Junior says.

Bracing may-be required for masonry chimneys that extend high above the roof line.
Lateral support may-be required to tie a chimney to the building structure.
Observe if the brick masonry bonds to wall masonry, are the brick locked in every course, or does the masonry chimney abut the wall.
Count brick course height to get an approximate height. 7 5/8" Length x 2 1/4" Height x 3 5/8”. Mortar Head/Bed Depth >< 5/8st. 4 bricks high = 1’ foot.
