Thanks for your post Joe, Some of your posts make me think you could be talking about your self.

Many of your posts are very helpfull, but some make me wonder.

Roy sr

Roy: You are welcome, please go further and tell me what you mean in your last sentence? I always talk about my experiences, and as usual also have war stories. I'll bet we all have them, why the members at the Albany seminar were happy to hear of the experiences that the instructor had, he also said something about Nick as an apprentice carrying 4 tool boxes into a building. You know anything about that Roy?

Paul: The whip that was supplied with the hi hats I am describing were those with a piece of 1/2 inch Greenfield that was required to be 4-6 feet long to help dissipate heat from the lamp holder, and those fixtures where supplied with asbestos fixture wires.

I am sure you are aware of the history and changes related to that "whip" and the rule has been revise to permit the other wining methods so that they would help the sales of the product, most of the Chapter 3 wiring methods are covered by various parts of the industry including manufacturers. I will come to your area and I will have a space for you during my seminars, that goes for any chapter after approved by Nick for an evening at a chapter meeting.

Tell us about the Chapter in you are how many NACHI members are at your meetings.

Joe,

Don't get me wrong my friend....as a electrician I find the stories helpful and I enjoy them. I always respect what older electricians can tell us younger ones...WHY...because it saves us from having to learn about them first hand and makes for interesting stories.

It is the HI's ( I am one myself so I try to put myself in their shoes )that I want to make sure they do not go above SOP and start quoting code which is why I try to break it down in layman terms for them as it is easier to convey to the client that way.

I am sure we could talk for hours on just electrical related things but in the board here I am sure we would BORE the heck out of the HI's.

Personally...ANY time you have a interesting story on electrical I would hope you would send it to me( via e-mail ) as soon as you can because I have to confess...I am a NEC and Electricity Junkie.....so by all means send them if you wish when you wish.

AS for the chapter.....sad to say it is SLOW going as we just started it and are trying to plan a date here in the next month but getting mixed reaction from local members......to be honest with you I am surprised at is as well.

I intend to speak on NEC for the HI's ( a lecture I do ) and speak on Radon and well a few other topics ( like grounding and so on ) but getting local realtors to partake is being part of a challenge.

I have a mailer going out in 2 weeks to all the HI's than came up in the NACHI search for my area....we will see what that does as well. Currently we have a dismal 2 members....but again it has only been a few weeks and things are just starting to get into the works so I have high hopes.......just hope I have nearly as much patience.

I agree in part, and have learned to understand the HI and SOP. But, Paul, am I seeing things? I see where you too do Code references,

![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) I think it's because we spend so much time with it!

War stories, I have many and people find them interesting and on many of my evaluations they say that the stories helped to make the subject more interesting and fun too.

I will bet that other's "Roy, Joe, and Bob" can add stories as well.

Here's another, I was to make an inspection of a service change in the basement of a dwelling and did so and when I returned to the car an looked and my feet and pants they were full of flees!

Joe,

Yes, I like to add the NEC reference after my explanation in most cases so they can refer back to it ( if they actually have a NEC Code Book ) so they can take my layman explanation and see how it looks in the code per say.

No you are not seeing things...I am like you in that respect in that I do like to post code when I can....Lord knows I do not know all the CODE and learn something everyday because to me the moment I stop learning life becomes boring.....

On the flee issue...lol...I think my wife can help that client.....lol...we own quite a few pet related business ventures as well...tehhehehe

lol…well lets just say I do take him on the job site now and then and if I do not keep an eye on him I think he would prefer to be a GRUNT under the house than wiring it.

I sometimes gave it some thought and asked him...Son, do you want to be an electrician and work with your daddy when you get older and he looks at me and says....Dad...as tired as you look when you come home in the evenings.....I think I will stick to being a doctor or lawyer...lol

I think he has NO idea of the schooling those folks have to endure...lol....but I will say this...he is 7 years old (2nd grade ) and is doing math at a 4th grade level....( am I proud or what...lol )

I am kinda a dad that says....Son do what ever you want in your life as it is way too short....if you do ever want to come into the family business I have a tool belt waiting for ya...lol

Do you have any children Joe....?

Paul, Joe

I generally do commercial inspections and have an electrical contractor working for me who also blows my mind with all the code violations in buildings which are either public or private, and many times insurance company related inspections. I really have to give them a lot of credit for all the knowledge which is required to inspect a building thoroghly, not only code requirements from the different NEC years, but some of the bizzare things we come across. I hear what the hell is this configuration quite often, I tell the electricians don't even try to explain it to me, thats what I'm paying you for.

Now in a home inspection view point, knowing what could or will harm the occupants of a home is also very important, probably the most important aspect of an inspection, besides the gas appliances having the same possible deadly results if not recognized. So in essense any inspector should know as much as possible about both. And I learn something everyday, each inspector should also in my opinion.

Talking about under the house, my dad who was an electrician took me out to a job once where we had to replace a feeder cable, and I was crawling under the store with the new cable, he said "just be careful not to touch that red hot cable" and man was it glowing.
