What are the advantages to a house constructed with metal studs? Does anyone note anything specific in their reports concerning metal studs? Does electrical get tricky with metal studs?

Home inspections. . . .

Russ,

I frequently see Romex run right through the holes in the studs without the plastic grommets for protection. Usually this is in the finished basement. Then I ask the homeowner if they obtained a permit for the finished basement....

Neal/Russel:

Some advantages of finishing off your basement using metal studs:

1. Straighter walls.
2. Termite proof (I say proof, not just merely resistant).
3. Mold proof.
4. Rot proof.
5. Less dust during studding-out portion of job.

And being the marketing guy that I am...

6. Most contractors don't use them and most home owners think they are better... so you can differentiate yourself from your competitors when you bid and price the job.
