Metallic sphere by front door?

This was screwed off to the left of the front door. Its not a door stopper because the door doesn’t open in its direction. Any ideas?

I agree. In the reflection, you can see the OP is standing on the darker material. And has 4 legs. That must be handy for doing inspections.
