Money in Attic

That might be the case there, so good luck with your decision.

The only thing I can recall sticking out like a sore thumb would be a bong I discovered in an attic last year…

Not a good idea. I think these clowns where found guilty. They told the police that they found it under a bush while doing some landscaping and the police said… Hmm, these bills are in pretty nice condition for being buried for so long.

I see those all the time in attics & closets, but then again we’re talkin’ Florida.

Last month I found about 30 porno movies stashed in both return air chambers.
Home was empty. The seller had built a shelf above the opening to the filter.

The selling agent and buyer had a good laugh. The selling agent was wondering on how she was going to tell the listing agent.

Yep, “Debby Does Dallas”.

Please Lord in this year of NEED. Test my faith. BUT not on the small side. Throw an envelope with $50K or so out there.

Help me really know what I’m made of.

Remember the old Home Inspector Saying: YOU don’t steal in slow motion!

The contents of the home belong to the homeowner, Now if I could just convince the buyer that he needs a yearly reinspection for $15.00 a year and it was still there a year later I would take it and provide them for free as long as he owns the home.(kidding) Actually I did find $250.00 in a can in a basement behind a firestop between floor beams while doing a termite inspection about 35 years ago. The bills were all the old BIG size 1920’s series. They got turned in I got a measly $50.00 reward. Nobody ever would have known if I had kept it except for me. Can’t rationalize honesty if you want to be honest then you have to be. Not sometimes-always.

I can’t even speculate on this scenario cause it’d never happen. First of all I do not find anything. I may observe or note or see, but never find.

I don’t move or rummage through items. The likely hood of some (smart?) person leaving 10k in the attic in an envelope that would be observed is well very slim to none.

I think the better question would be what would you do if you observe something that would tempt you or possibly you’d desire? For me, leave it. It’s not working loosing my career or going to jail or getting sued over.

It could be credit cards, checkbooks, cash, jewelry, collectibles, weed, pills, stuff that gives you a bonner, medical supplies, lighter (had friend that loved them), underwear, cds, dvds, movies, porn, paper towels, cleanning supplies, yard art, and the freaking list can go on and on. All of us have or do encounter this shat on a daily basis. Most of the time, sellers are not there or the home is vaccant, and so on. Honor system. That is why I do not move or touch shat that does not belong to me.

Good luck with your Easter Egg Hunt

I would call the police, someone may come along after you and not be so honest

I did Find $1101.00 in a popcorn clear jar stuffed about 2 feet back inside of a supply air duct in a slab floor while checking for moisture marks. The home was a repo and the buyer was purchasing as a flip never lived in by him. When I pulled the jar out everyone’s eyes got big. I could have just left the jar in place and when no one was looking put the money in my pocket but I don’t operate in that mode. I gave it to the new owner no tip but I did make the newspaper and some good free advertising.

That no longer applies. An inspector in So Cal found 1.7 million in cash in the attic of a vacant home, turned it in and got SQUAT, NOTHING just a Thank You.

I think I forgot something back at the house, oh well I can’t remember what it was, must not be to important.

Cold Cash!!

I think a better question wold be if you were in an attic and saw a $100 bill, what would you do?

Chuck -

I believe your wrong. As I understand it was $1,850,000 (at least thats what the smuggler whose house it was in said).

Barry -

How tall was the pile BEFORE you did the inspection.

I inspect a lot of attics, most are accessible from the master bedroom closet. I have seen it all at the top shelves of these closets. You name it.

How nice that this is in the General section, available to the public and it shows that 14%+ of those responding so far are thieves.

At today’s long-vacant short sale there was a nice hard-shell guitar case in the basement.

Just had to look: nice mid range ($1200) guitar in excellent condition.

Left it as I had found it.

prior contents weren’t on the disclosure, the unit did meet proper temperatures for food and freezing storage according to the USDA 40 °F and 0°F
