My question is not a slam or a challenge and is not directed toward NACHI or any person.
I saw a member advertising that he can save people in Florida hundreds of dollars on their energy bills as a “InterNACHI Certified Energy Inspector”.
Is there really such a thing, what does a member do to become “certified” as an energy inspector, and what does an energy inspector do? I am not familiar with the term, the certification or the manner in which they save people money.
Is this something new? I know about the idea of having home inspectors add the home energy score as an ancillary service. Is that what this guy is talking about?
I don’t know all the requirements to use that particular logo, but I believe to access our online home energy report generator you will eventually have to take some special, free, online training courses which we developed with the DOE. I believe that will then give you use of that logo (program is still being beta tested in FL) which has text different from both the designation referred to in the title of this thread and Certified Professional Inspector.
After InterNACHI members score the homes, we need the contractors to come in next. Merely knowing your home scored poorly and that you could be saving energy… doesn’t save any fossil fuels, doesn’t lower your energy bills, doesn’t give any contractors work, and doesn’t help the planet. The inspection/report generation is the first step.
