New Construction Thru Wall Flashing

On the last 4 new construction builds the thru wall flashing has been installed past the face of the brick. I have looked up various manufacturers installation instructions, and the majority want their products installed so that the edge meets or is cut back from the face of the brick.

As far as I can tell it is not a functional issue, but cosmetic. And all of the contractors (three different contractors), that the “thru wall flashing is always installed this way”.

I had a painter one time tell me “if you look around, and everyone else looks like they are standing on their heads, you should make sure that you are not the one standing on your head”. I am just checking to make sure I am not standing on my head.

Looks like he*^*. Is there any weep holes?
