I have a question, what advice would you give to a new home inspector and how long did it take you to advance and or master home inspections?
Keep learning and get as much education through InterNACHI as you can.
It could take years to get proficient. I don’t think you ever stop learning. On today’s home inspection the cold air return filters were pitch black. I’ve never seen this before.
The homeowner had a candle burning during the inspection and claims to have one running all the time. The candle was a paraffin wax candle, and that was the source of the black soot on her cold air return filters. Sometimes you learn something new every day.
Make sure to do at least 50-100 ride alongs with a veteran inspector. Then only perform inspections by yourself when you feel confident in your abilities.
