New Protimeter Moisture Meters

I’ve got a Protimeter Aquant that’s several years old and I’ve been eyeing their new model as a replacement. The Aquant has fit really well into my routine, does great on glossy and surfaces with residue like kitchens, and the size is perfect for my tool pouch. The switch to AA batteries instead of a 9v is appealing, and the bluetooth could be really handy to use the meter with a selfie stick and check those surfaces just out of reach. Has anyone here been using the new Aquant or Surveymaster and have an opinion on it vs the older models?

Not really what you’re looking for. I have an older Surveymaster and frankly don’t see much need for “bluetooth” in a moisture meter. Don’t really need a selfie stick either when a ladder works just fine. If you just want to spend money, we do that sometimes (my wife does it a lot), go for it. Tell us how you like it.

We use the SurveyMaster. Just replaced my 20-year-old Surveymaster with the new model. I like the new Surveymaster and it works just as good if not better than the old model. As for the Bluetooth feature, I do not think I will use it that much if at all. I have had a Tramex ME meter with Bluetooth and have only used the Bluetooth feature it a couple of times in two years, and both were for litigation cases.

If it were me, I would go with the Surveymaster over the Aquant, the probe and pins come in handy every now and then.

I haven’t seen the new model yet…

The “selfie stick” is a great tool(s) to have in the bag and gets used everyday, it has saved me tons of time vs dragging a ladder in to take a 10 second reading (especially helpful for ceilings over 12’). If you can reach it with the selfie you should be able to read the meter, so I don’t see any advantage to bluetooth.

Appreciating the input. I’ve been debating the Surveymaster with the added probes but I’ve jabbed myself with when caps pop off the probe meters many more times than I’ve used them. Favorite use for the bluetooth/selfie stick is checking ceilings in high rise condos where I don’t have a ladder with me. I did that with a Tramex meter for a while but it went on the fritz, and I was always worried about the needle display getting damaged. It’s good to hear the new Protimeters work as well/better than the old ones.

I have this one in my truck and works very well for the hard-to-reach areas.

One of my Tramex meters (a few years old) stopped working in 2020, I sent it to Ireland and they repaired it for me. It’s still going strong.

I wish people would stop playing that annoying hypnotizing background music while they’re trying to explain things……it’s on almost every video anymore…..

I have a Protimeter Surveymaster that I’ve been using for about eight years now. I love it. I’ve been trying to figure out how I can put it on an extendable pole to reach the higher spots. It’s aggravating to be in the middle of an inspection and have to stop, go out to the truck, grab a ladder or step ladder, go back in and set up, just to take a quick reading. Even more so when I have to drag the ladder up flights of stairs to take a reading. If I can put my Surveymaster on a pole that would save me a lot of time.

Velcro work?

I tried a phone clamp from my roof camera pole. An X grip such as Ram Mount sells would be ideal I think. Tramex sells a kit with a selfie stick and clamp but it’s pretty spendy.

Get creative. I have one of these, older and with a different attachment shape. I’m sure if you check around, you can find one that would suit your needs, even with some minor modifications.
$10 beats the heck out of some high priced specialty tools!

. . . but now I have to go out to the truck and get the painter’s pole . . whine

This is what Tramex sells and would fit in a toolbag.

Tramex Extension Pole

Problem is… Surveymaster(s) don’t have the female ferrule for the mounting bolt and seat, unless the new models have them.
IMO, the mounting bolt only enhances the necessity for using the ‘pins’ versus the “Surface Mount” system.
