New rules for new wells

Bucks County will begin certifying new private wells next year to help prevent residents from drinking contaminated water. The county commissioners approved the new regulations, and Bucks' health department is getting ready to hire additional staffers and putting the finishing touches on the program. The new regulations will apply to new wells, not existing ones. It estimated that between 300 and 400 new private wells are drilled each year in Bucks. Among the key components of the new program will be certifying that each well has a proper sanitary seal. Problems with the seal could allow contaminants in and hurt water quality. The fee has not been set yet but it will be as low as the county can make it according to officials.
