New to mould inspection in NZ

Hi everyone. Im new to Internachi and new to the mould inspection world.

I live in New Zealand and after our family dealt with mould-related health challenges, I decided to start a business helping NZers navigate all the challenges with mould. Initially I didn’t want to do inspections, but it’s been really hard finding good inspectors over here so I have decided to train up and start offering that service.

I have begun by helping out some friends and family. One friend has been noticing some health effects and enquired about mould. His house is brick but one wall is monolithic cladding (or stucco?) and there were a lot of high moisture readings on both sides of the wall in the kitchen area.

Im trying to work out the most cost effective way to test for the amplification of mould in that wall and help create a clear plan. My thoughts were to do a wall cavity air sample in the suspect area. I understand an outdoor control is also needed but if the test comes back looking obviously bad (ie stachy, massive counts asp/pen) can we flag the outdoor control?

And is the moisture and wall cavity sample enough to determine that the remediation needs to be done? Or if there are health concerns do we need to also do some ambient air samples to determine if exposure is happening in the house?

Sorry lots of questions! Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions

Here in Colorado, there are clear guidelines for sampling. What are your government or government agency standards and guidelines for sampling? That will guide you.

Thanks Lon. Unfortunately we dont have any guidelines, or regulation in the industry. Its a bit of a shambles here to be honest. For example one of the main testing companies here doesnt use a moisture meter or do any source identification. He basically uses air testing to sell fogging as a solution which is terrible.
