I see this all the time. Usually a crawl under an addition with just enough space to squeeze under the pipes to get in.

This is the basement of a 1889 home. The last owner decided to knock a large portion of the wall out to get into the crawl space. It’s hard to tell here, but the hole spans about half the width of the house and is about about two feet in height, all covered by plastic.
