Did they need an extra 2 to 3 inches for the car bumper?

No, they’d hit whatever, the flat surface left when studs were removed, simply causes less damage and marring on the bumper.

I think you just successfully read the mind of someone in the past. 
They were going to install a window over the cripples on the right but could not because it was too low to the floor and created a hazard for children falling so they just blocked it in.:mrgreen:
Or they were going to install a high window on the right and were HAMMERED.:shock:
