All of the drains were set up this way and none were leaking
That’s because that black tailpiece is 1-1/4” tube threaded into the drain assembly. It’s made to be that way. The plumber did a nice job of wiping away any Teflon paste he used to seal the joint. If it’s not leaking why would you report on it?

Thanks Martin. I do new construction all of the time and have never seen it that way. I figured it was fine, but just wanted to get a second opinion.

Also, just because it’s not leaking doesn’t mean it is correct, right?
In this instance, it is correct and it is not leaking. Don’t make things up. Know exactly what you’re looking at and report.
