Jeff

Where did the pdf file come from??

Is this a state doc or someone in authority??

Looks like something on 6:00 news with no supporting documentation

Sorry to be a questing mind but that is just me

Like where did this doc come from??

rlb

Elroy:

The doc was prepared by the State.

Jay

Sorry about the typo of your name – that was bad and I am sorry

THE STATE?? Sounds like a lot of “we think” rather than fact

Would you care to post the link to the state site?

Jay

Is it about time for us to get better informed and ether get on or off the pot?

Many are relying on you – and yes I am bugging you (boy I wish I had some help)

So should we just cool our *** or is it time that we get off of same

rlb

Jay, thank you. This bill seems to be very simple

Sure is beginning to look like a slam-dunk, this thing ain’t going to slow down through the committees the only hope is that the Governor won’t sign it once again.

Can’t see any in sense steeping out in front of a freight train, I’m done with it, been preparing for this bill for a couple of years now and it shouldn’t effect my business at all, just call me old granddad.

The real shame is it will prevent us from ever really becomming a true profession while giving the Realtors complete control, C’est la vie.

Get ready. 2008 and 2010 are just around the corner. Did I just say that?

Gary

Yes or no on the bill

If you want any changes lets get them on record and maybe we can make it happen

Who knows

rlb

Let me review and I will get back to you. What county do you live in?

Polk

Richard how about we form the Greater Orlando NACHI Chapter

What will be the requirement to proof that a HI has accomplished 250 Home Inspections before 2007? Will they have specific guidelines to demonstrate to the government that 250 legitimate Home Inspections were performed? Comprehensive, 4 Point, Mold screening, pre-construction, commercial, assessments,…??? what qualify as a legitimate Home Inspection? Cover letter, receipt, list,… …$$???:roll:

Reread the bill. There is no State government entity to report anything to. IF you ever get sued and the opposing lawyer makes you produce your qualifications, etc. and you do not have everything in place to being doing inspections then your butt is in a grinder. The onus to be legal is being put on the inspector. One of flaws in the bill is; who will get to determine if the course anyone takes is “good enough” to pass muster? I suppose the judge in the case will be the one to determine this. The bill makes the inspector responsible for doing business IAW the guidelines. No one to “show” anything to until you wind up in court. Then you will have to produce ALL of the proof that you have been working and conducting business legally. Basically, Florida is staying out of your business with the exceptions of telling you whom and who can not do business. Confusing isn’t it?

Not entirely correct, under the proposed bill you will be obligated to disclose (show) to your customer prior to performing the inspection your experience as outlined in the bill. Most likely Realtors will collect copies of this data and have it on file prior to referring any home inspector. Better get busy on writing your Curriculum Vitae, copying the syllabus from your training courses & NHIE results.

I am thinking what a great marketing tool, professionally bound, white linen paper hand delivered to every real estate office in my area, uploaded to my website and available to all potential customers. Hey, maybe this bill ain’t so bad anyway? Sign me up!

Joe,
You are absolutely correct in that regard. I chose think of this as another opportunity rather than a problem. When given lemons, make lemonade. Last year I said as much whenever it was pointed out the issue of putting in writing all your qualifications/experience. It does not bode as well for someone just starting out w/o a construction background because they will have a fairly thin resume compared to others. Now there are going to be those that have really gone the extra mile and gotten every kind of training available to make themselves more competitive. We could all argue endlessly about how “unfair” this is but this is a common practice in the business community of putting forth your qualifications and experience as a marketing tool. Those with fewer years will need to be creative without being dishonest. This is where affiliations with various professional associations will be beneficial as one can use the associations verbage to write their resumes. In regards to showing someone (other than client and realtors) I was specifically referencing a “government” agency, but I am glad you pointed out the exception. That area of the bill is and could be problematic in the event someone finds themselves in court.

Gary

What are your thoughts at this time about a new chapter?

I think we need another one in central Fl

We have too many inspectors in this area who need a home

Sorry for the off thread post — very bad and I will try not to do it again

rlb

I’m already using the information as a marketing tool. ITA 90 hours of training, 24 hours of construction curriculum at St Petersburg College, 48 hours of construction curriculum at Auburn University, Drafting courses, on the job training, supervisory construction experience, CEU’s in all types and manner of marketing and construction plus electrical power. I’ve swung a hammer, walked 8 inch I beans 100 feet off the floor, supervised the roofing of the world’s largest Architectural Metal Roofing Project. What more can they ask for ?

Richard,

I think we do need one.
