It is easier to change direction than it is to forget where one has been.

I am curious to know how interior venting range hoods work. I see these often.

Poorly Kevin, poorly! They are designed to remove (some) grease only, and do nothing for moisture. I always recommend upgrade when I see a recirculating hood.

Charles,

The wiring leads me to believe the exhaust vent was a recent upgrade and not original construction.

Ductless (ventless, recirculating, interior venting, etc.) range hoods make poor hair driers. icon_biggrin.gif

I explain to my clients that all they do is blow the air directly into your face. ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif)

Theoretically, they have grease filters to catch the grease in the 'grease laden air'. When is the last time anyone has found a clean grease filter?

Seller says 'Oh, those come out?'

I am pretty sure that the exhaust fan was originally a flush ceiling exhaust fan and they just pulled it down and built a cabinet around it. The metal duct that would have stuck up into the attic like in Jeff’s pic is now inside the cabinet. Also in this installation the pipe and fan housing all tested “hot” with my 90volt ticker.
