I’am a building code official in the state of PA and was wondering how the new Uniform Construction Code will make a impact on the Home inspection business? Also, I was wondering if the the International Code Council testing are in line with the NHIE exam which everyone is talking about as to reciprocity in the current exam categories? As of now I am registerd through the department of Labor and Industry as a CO, and have 13 certifications in residential, and commercial construction.

The change in code should not impact home inspectors, other than it might require some additional education.

The NHIE compared to the ICC exams: Most of the ICC exams are 50 questions from what I remember and they are also open book.
The NHIE is 200 questions closed book. The NHIE is not all code specific questions, but it does have a good deal of code based questions. You also have questions on business ethics, report writing, and a good deal of questions on defect recognition, you don't have those on most of the ICC exams.

I am interested in getting more information on becoming code certified. If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Dan, go to ICCSAFE.org and sign up for a class on whatever subject you want to be certified in, take the test and submit this information to the PA dept of L&I along with a check and that is all you have to do.

Jeff, Why is it that you have only one certification on the ICC website? Also, you are not registered as a Third party inspector on the Department of Labor and Industry? Just wondering what type of code work you are performing?
