Are pet doors a defect?

Otherwise just a way for a burglar (security) to get in and not too efficient R value wise.

Not many comments so far. A pet door in a fire rated wall/door is a problem. A pet door giving access to an enclosed pool area is a problem.

Myself I call out all pet doors, no one has ever had problem with it. Some clients were not even aware a pet door was installed.
