Pretty cool.

Pretty cool until the power goes out and your house temps drop to freezing, perhaps it’s time for pruning ![]()
The best part about seeing high tension power lines arcing is the brilliant colors it creates. Then watching how the arcing makes the cables sway back and forth, causing it to arc some more. Cool Picture!
Agree…We watched one from a distance one time and it was beautiful until the transformer blew.
Scared the h3ll out of us!
That looks very much like an Italian Spruce, which is not a tree that generally requires pruning as they grow ramrod straight. However, in this case, the tree is so overladen with snow and ice that it is doubling over from the weight.
I am going to tuck that away as an important factoid. A tall, slender, tree near a powerline/service line is just as much a potential nuisance as one with an overhanging limb.
Xcel in our area never let them within 20ft of lines, I came home from work one day, and 1 whole tree was gone, down to the stump on the ground, and another one was cut down to the bare trunk of the tree. I understand keeping them cut back, but this was ridiculous. Guess they don’t care how much you just spent on trees. I tried to talk to the punk that was contracted to do the work, but he won’t get out of his truck.
Yeah, the utility can typically do whatever they want. I’ve got a few funny looking trees because they come “shave” them every few years, lol. I’d rather have that than be without power though I guess.
