Please comment on this way of draining water

There were no floor drain in the basement. What is this pipe above floor level with the orange cap

That appears to be a floor drain, you can cut off the excess pipe to make it flush with the floor if you like. I would remove the orange cap to allow for better flow.

Now could you please comment on what you think about this and your other post?

Being a newer inspector it is important to practice and not simply rely on others to do the reporting, eh?

For instance, what is entering the pipe you asked about?

And, if the orange cap was removed, what would you have then? Could it be problematic?

Tell us what you see and what you think is wrong (or right). And a few more photos will help. You posted another photo on another thread with a vague question. There are lots of things going on in the photos, but most of us aren’t going to write essays that may have nothing to do with your concern. For instance, I might wonder why the heck there are barbell weights on top of one of the rough-in drains but unlikely to report that as a defect.
