What’s that got to do with anything?

…proving they’ve been in the inspection business for at least three years;

The requirement is to have been in the business for at least three years. Does not say a full time inspector for three years. My business started in early 2004.

Actually I started doing this full time on October 30th 2008. Hey it’s been over a year since I went FT!! I guess that date came and went without much thought but this year has more than exceeded my expectations.

Here are the requirements.

 1. completing 1,000 fee-paid inspections and/or hours of inspection-related Continuing Education courses (combined) in their lifetime;

 1. proving they’ve been in the inspection business for at least three years;

 2. abiding by the industry’s toughest Code of Ethics;

 3. substantially following a Board-approved Standards of Practice;

 4. submitting to a criminal background check; and

 5. applying for Board certification by signing an affidavit in front of a Notary.

My business was started in early 2004. There’s nothing about being FT for at least three years. I’ve been FT since October 2008. That’s just a little longer than six months.

Thanks for your help Mike.

Geez, I was only pulling your chain, but since you want to have a bit of an attitude, I have to ask, how does someone work a full time job for 41/2 years, do a few inspections a year PT, go into inspections FT for a year and get inspection numbers where they need to be plus the CU’s to equal 1,000 hours/CU’s. Personally, I could care less if you get a CMI designation, just don’t prostitute it by inflating numbers to become competitive with any CMI’s in your market area. Once that is allowed, the designation isn’t worth squat to anyone. It took Will Decker 5 years to obtain CMI and he was doing inspections full time plus developing CU courses.
