Don’t say “Right.” I refuse to believe maga is the “Right” long term. I’m hoping the “Right” gets back to normal after the Trump cult thing goes away.
Maybe a Jim Jones type of 'cleansing"? JK, but the cult mentality needs to fade away…
Did someone say Puerto Rico?
Of course you would believe that
Just for perspective: To make the case in Charlottesville, you will have to condemn any person resisting the removal of statues, effectively labeling them as racists and nazis. Trump was clear on all these issues. But people ignore this because it propels an agenda.
People act ignorant of the nuance because it is convenient.
@kleonard do you think all people protesting the removal of statues are racist and Nazis?
Reporters shortly began asking questions about Trump’s initial response to violent protests in Charlottesville, Va. It was at this press conference that Trump said that “you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”
Trump : "Well, I think the driver of the car is a disgrace to himself, his family, and this country. And that is – you can call it terrorism. You can call it murder. You can call it whatever you want. I would just call it as the fastest one to come up with a good verdict. That’s what I’d call it. Because there is a question: Is it murder? Is it terrorism? And then you get into legal semantics. The driver of the car is a murderer. And what he did was a horrible, horrible, inexcusable thing.
Trump: "Okay, good. Are we going to take down the statue? Because he was a major slave owner. Now, are we going to take down his statue?
"So you know what, it’s fine. You’re changing history. You’re changing culture. And you had people – and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists – because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.
“Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people. But you also had troublemakers, and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets, and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group.”
No, this is still America and everyone has a right to express thier own opinion, but I haven’t seen or heard of anyone protesting the statues.
I saw a story in the news today about those statues. Whoever built them and put them where they are got permits and did everything legally. Apparently, they have become a tourist attraction, at least according to the report I saw. Whoever built them did a heck of a job considering they are made from some type of metal.
I do think they served their purpose as a reminder to people of what I consider to be times of national disgrace for our country and also they are reminders and are representative of the Trump years.
Sadly, they are supposed to be removed by Midnight tonight. I imagine that if the owners don’t remove them by the deadline, that the US National Parks Police will…
Which statues are you speaking of? The Charlottesville protest was explicitly about the removal of the local statues. People came to protest their removal, and people came to Charlottesville to advocate for their removal.
Both sides had violent people in attendance.
Trump said there were good people on both sides (similar to your sentiment)
If I am accurate in my assessment, then why this?
Remind me, is there unity here? Or is it the same “us against them” that some accuse Trump of doing?
I’m talking about the statues that I posted pictures of above. Post 412.
So you don’t have a problem with a crowd with tiki torches chanting White Supremacists Adopt New Slogan: “You Will Not Replace Us” | ADL and NAZI Slogans is a problem?
There’s a right way and a wrong way to protest, this was one of the wrong ways.
Unity? Obviously the message wasn’t intended to be about unity. It’s about a historical event that will live in the bowels of US history.
Like this Trump lovefest of fear and hate?
I do have a problem with that, as did President Trump.
I assumed you supported the statues you posted regardless of the fact that they completely misrepresented the facts of that day and the days immediately following.
Antifa also had their violence and hateful rhetoric. They physically attack those they do not understand or have a different perspective.
But it is so much simpler to call Trump and his supporters racist and fascist. Hey, it might win you an election. Probably not because it is disingenuous and people see through it.
