Thanks Jerry and William.
Jerry,
I thought not all manufacturers put that info in the #s and not always on all of the models? So how do you determine if it is actually the tonage and the date and not just random #s?

William,
Experience and learning allows you to decipher the ones you don't know, well, usually. Yes, they are all different
Some even make it 'a secret', to where you have to call the manufacturer and ask them.
One is First Company. I called them a few years ago to find out their date coding. They said 'What's the serial number, we can tell you.' I said, 'What's the code?' (innocent question, right?) 'No, you tell us the serial number and I can tell you when it was manufactured.' I laughed 'What, the date code is a SECRET?' (big pause) 'Yes. Warranty issues.' (okay, that tells me more than they knew) After about 30 minutes on the phone explain I did inspections and 'just wanted to be able to tell my customer how old the a/c was, and 'besides, that should help your warranty issues, they will know the a/c is out of warranty', I finally got it. Jeesh, you'd think I was stealing a state secret or something. ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)
