Pulins are a horizontal piece running perpendicular to the rafters that helps to hold the rafters straight.

Thanks, I have seen these that were without struts , just 2x4 perpeniculer


to rafters and I thought it was just to keep the rafters straight like you said.


But, in this case did they forgrget the struts or is this something else that


looks like purlins. Are the structual?

If I understand your question; You can have purlins without struts. They do two differnt things.

The purlins keep the rafters straight and properly braced so you can put the sheathing on and have everything line up.

The struts transfer loads. Basicaly making an on onsite truss.
