Purpose and scope of the IRC

The International Residential Code (IRC) sets minimum standards for the construction, safety, and energy efficiency of one- and two-family homes and townhouses. Its purpose is to provide uniform, comprehensive building requirements that protect public health and safety, guide builders, and ensure consistent quality across jurisdictions that adopt the code.

And what is the ‘Purpose and Scope’ of YOUR post??

Morning, Steven. Hope this post finds you well.

In essence, the IRC is a basic minimum standard of building practices. A model code.
It’s provisions are adopted by many local jurisdictions. There are no statues.
The collection of standards were developed by the International Code Council or ICC. The collection of building standards covers ‘all aspects of residential construction,’ which include building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical requirements.

Thank you for your post.
Robert Young (CPI) (CMI)

You look like you are in Texas, are you?

If/when you start performing phase inspections you will see that the IRC is regularly not followed. The local AHJ’s mostly do not seem to know what the requirements are either. Hell even the engineered plans are many times not followed!

My thought also.
There seems to be another wave of them this week.
Have to assume due to the long weekend coming up?
