Questions Of The Week May 7 ~ Air Conditioning/HVAC Questions!

It was over 90 degrees today & made me think of my newly installed AC system.
So… … … HVAC questions.

HOWDY & Welcome to another round of Questions of The Week!

Please read the Introduction and requirements, changes may have been made.

A member of the Awards Committee will post questions, at a random day/time.

Eligible members may make one post per question thread to answer the questions, and the eligible member’s winning entry must have all parts of the questions answered completely in that one post. Editing your one answer post allowed will result in disqualification.

Any disregard to the above and divulging the correct answers or giving hints/references will cause a disqualification.

First correct answers (as judged by the Awards Committee or Poster of the Questions) wins.
Request your choice by emailing fastreply@nachi.org and submit your Mailing address for shipping.

Choose your prize from the following list!:

** $50.00 gift certificate from Inspector Outlet
** Case of books "Now That You’ve had A Home Inspection"
** Seventeen Custom Branded Videos value $50.00 ~ your choice!

It’s someone going to come in and steal my win?

Perhaps NOT.
I may end it anytime after 7:43PM tonight.
I guess too much brain work. …

Does @wforrest win? I let him answer second that way he can take my win also.:rofl:

#3 was a little vague & there are two answers. Kelvin & ice power.
I messed up (don’t tell Larry & Marcel).
#4 first part is NO.
#5 you guys both gave a list more than I had!

So how about congrats to Bill Forrest & Jacob Kaufman for being here & winning.

Before switching over, ice power was the way you measured air conditioning. As crazy as it sounds, ice power was determined by the ice needed to create the temperature that the room was at.
In other words, how many blocks of ice it would take to produce the same amount of cooling power.
https://www.desertairps.com/5-facts-about-air-conditioners/

The Kelvin temperature scale was the brainchild of Belfast-born British inventor and scientist William Thomson — also known as Lord Kelvin. It is one of the three best-known scales used to measure temperature, along with Fahrenheit and Celsius.

4) An on-off type compressor, does it draw the same amount of current while automatic on from off as it draws at the time of first starting of the unit?
FIRST PART ~ Yes or No
SECOND PART ~ What is this called?
It draws the current known as in-rush current when the compressor turns from OFF status to ON status. It can be a few times more compared to the rated running current. The current is not necessarily the same each time the compressor turns on as it depends on which phase the current is when it switches on

5) Annually the homeowner should consider a “tune-up” for the central cooling and heating system in their home.
Name what parts should be checked. (I count at least twelve)
At least once a year, we suggest that homeowners schedule a professional tune-up for the central heating and cooling system in their home. Inspections on boiler and furnace systems should include duct work, pipes, dampers, valves, the chimney, registers, radiators, pumps, blowers, fuel lines, the gas meter, oil tank and every part of the actual furnace and boiler

Second Hand News Fleetwood Mac
Writer: Lindsey Buckingham
The opening track of one of the world’s most popular albums of all time, Rumors, the song is the first cut on the album for a reason. It sets the mood for the listeners so they can have an idea of the album, an album that was created around feelings of hope and heartbreak, resignation and love.

Formed from the ashes of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, legendary blues guitarist Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John (Mac) McVie formed Fleetwood Mac

Congratulations Bill and Jacob! Way to go! :+1:

Congrats William & Jacob!

Wow thanks @mgoldenberg! and thanks @lkage and @jfudge. I was going to choose ice power as that was one of the research answers I saw but it sounded so dumb haha. Guess I was wrong.
Thanks again for doing these week in and week out!
Great job to @wforrest for his win as well.
