Welcome To Questions of The Week!

A member of the Awards Committee will post questions, at a random day/time.

Members may make one post per question thread to answer the questions, and the member’s winning entry must have all parts of the questions answered completely in that one post.

No editing is allowed and INELIGIBLE members will be disqualified.

First correct answers (as judged by the Awards Committee or Poster of the Questions) wins.

Request your choice by emailing fastreply@nachi.org and submitting your Mailing address for shipping.

Choose your prize from the following list!:

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch, LOl. Two of the answers could be better.

Not so fast! I am going to steal all of his answers, but I’ll take organic growth for $200…
“What is organic growth on an hvac duct joint” is my final answer

  • Ryan can still take the win though… I was lazy

Didnt quite understand #1… because thats why we have GFCI. And does e mean ‘always have a disconnect’? I just refer to “c”

I suppose you are right, lol. I rushed through it a bit.
But in any case…

There have to be at least two contestants or its not a contest.

1 c) Always Ask Robert :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
2 e) lack of maintenance
3 Inspect - The separation wall in the attic appears damaged. A panel is displaced so the fire barrier is broken. Fire separation walls should be made from materials with at least a 1-hour fire rating, typically 5/8" Type-X drywall. The wall panel pictured appears to be MDF which may or may not be fire-rated. No markings on the edge are visible to indicate a fire rating so this may be standard MDF.
4 Employing outside resources in order to ventilate a room is… mechanical or forced ventilation. Passive or natural ventilation does not use fans or mechanical systems.
5 Apparent microbial growth was observed along what may be a seam in the drywall. It is beyond the scope of this inspection to identify what substance or organism this staining is. However such staining is normally caused by excessively moist conditions, which in turn can be caused by plumbing or building envelope leaks and/or substandard ventilation. These conducive conditions should be corrected before making any attempts to remove or correct the staining. Normally affected materials such as drywall are removed, enclosed affected spaces are allowed to dry thoroughly, a fungicide may be applied, and only then is drywall reinstalled. For evaluation and possible mitigation, consult with a qualified industrial hygienist or mold/moisture mitigation specialist.

Bonus track, Who sang this on what song: Carlene Carter’s back up singers sang this on the chorus of “I fell in Love” (Technically, Carlene didn’t sing this line  )

Be interesting to hear where that growth is. It’s unusual to see it only on the drywall tape, which makes me think it is on an hvac joint. (No insulation)

So…
My book says Ryan Uecker & Bert Hull both got 2 correct.
Now make a decision who gets the big big mega prize. :pretzel:

Nasty, stinky kitchen!
The cabinets were removed & the German Cockroach party was exposed.

Cockroaches secrete an oily liquid that has an offensive and sickening odor. This odor may also be imparted to dishes that are apparently clean, food and clothes. Excrement in the form of pellets or an inklike liquid also contributes to this nauseating odor.
