I would prefer to own the GTO, but the Vette wins in a race…

Vette wins in a race, but if I had my choice between the two cars, I’d go with the GOAT as well.

Nice garage.

Looks like we’re all on the same page. I prefer the GOAT too, and I bet it could keep up with the Vette at least for a little while

Can’t beat the classics. I’d take a GTO over a newer Vet any day. I prefer to own stuff I can wrench on myself… Too many electronics on the newer stuff for me.

Besides, you can’t beat raw unadulterated horsepower.

The GTO had a pretty nice interior also for a 50 plus year old car.

During the late 80s and early 90s, myself and all my friends had various “classic” cars. We wrenched and built and ran them at Quaker, Meander and a few other tracks in northern Ohio.

I started with a stock 1968 Mustang with a 289. It ran 16.20s in the 1/4.

Not long after the frame was beyond my ability and I yanked the engine and put it in a different Fox body. A 1980 Ford Fairmont.

By the time I was done, it ran 11.72 at 123.5mph in the 1/4 on a 175hp nitrous system. Naturally aspirated otherwise. There’s probably three dozen cars off the show room floor that are faster than that Now.

Hell, my 2015 Acura TLX with the V6 ran low 14s! It was several years before my race car would hit that.

My buddy was a GTO guy until he built out his goat as far as he could and gave up. Ultimately went the Chevelle route. He went bigger, and bigger cam on the 454 until the thing was only trailerable. Got it into the 10s.

Some years back, he tore all that off, put a blower on it. Now it’s well into the 9s and tame as a pussycat otherwise. You can daily drive it without any issues.

I can’t seem to find my picture of a launch, but my Fairmont would get the left front about 1 mm off the deck. heh. Walt’s Chevelle had no issues with that though.

Found a couple more… This was early on when it ran 15s flat. Probably 88

I bought this one in 1970 and wish I still had it.

Would you believe I got married 3 years later and had to buy this one?

Very true, the other one kept giving me speeding tickets and jail time in Canada.

The sun was just starting to melt it off.

That Cyclone looks like a race car, but that Nova looks like a sleeper.

I would be happy to have either one of them in my garage today, Marcel.

Pretty much, Kevin. I go nailed on the TransCanada highway over 120 and ended up in jail and my father had to come bail me out. He was not impressed. LOL

I gotta guy who cuts me things out of metal to sell at our store. It got just warm enough today to spray paint this one outside to prep it to bring in. It’s one of my favorites, lol.
