CPSC, International Comfort Products LLC Announce Recall to Repair
Packaged Gas Furnace and AC Units
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary
recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Certain Packaged Gas Furnace and AC Units
Units: About 28,700
Manufacturer: International Comfort Products LLC, of Lewisburg, Tenn.
Hazard: The unit's control board can ignite and, in certain units, can
result in the ignition of flammable material adjacent to the unit.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of minor
property damage. There are no reports of injuries.
Description: The recall involves certain packaged gas furnace and air
conditioning units sold under the brand names Airquest, Arcoaire,
Comfortmaker, Heil, Keeprite, Kenmore, ICP Commercial, and Tempstar. The
recall includes configurations of "A" chassis units with 3-ton or 5-ton
cooling capacity, manufactured between the 41st week of 2000 and the
26th week of 2003. The model and serial numbers are printed on the
unit's rating plate. The rating plate is on the exterior of the unit, on
the right side (as viewed when facing an installed unit). Contact the
firm to check if your model and serial number of your unit is included
in the recall.
Manufactured in: U.S.
Sold by: Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning dealers and
contractors nationwide between October 2000 and September 2005.
Remedy: Consumers with recalled units will receive a free replacement
control board and capacitor installed.
